The rock in space has been found with symbols of the origin of life on Earth

Image
In June 2022, a team of researchers from Japan released a paper that contained the results of a study in which they found that there was a 5.4-gram dust sample from the outer rock and the measurements were taken to indicate that there may have been a source of life.   The study, led by Okayama University in Western Japan, found that life in the universe came from space.   The measurements taken for the world's first exploration in 2020 were taken from a rock called Ryugu, after a journey of some 300 million kilometers in a space that lasted for six years.   The dust contained amino acids and other chemicals that could show signs of life on Earth.   A team of researchers revealed that they found about 23 species of this amino acid when they examined the measurements taken during the 2019 Hayabusa-2 trip.   The Japanese Space Research Organization, JAXA, reported that the measurements taken from Ryugu existed about five million years after the ...

Volcanoes: Referees for the life on Earth

Image
At the Triassic-Jurassic boundary, 200 million years ago, some 60% of species living on Earth disappeared.   Scientists suspected that magmatic activity and the release of CO2 were responsible for this environmental disaster.   To corroborate this, one would need to find and precisely date traces of this activity and make sure that it coincides with this mass extinction.   The precise determination of this timing has been achieved by scientists at the University of Geneva and was published in Nature Communications.   Scientists have often linked the annihilation of life at the Triassic-Jurassic boundary with the emission of gas during the volcanic activity of the Central Atlantic Magmatic Province, a huge volcanic province that erupted around the same time.   Geological studies, however, have questioned this hypothesis since the flood basalt eruptions from the igneous province are too young to be responsible for the mass extinction.   ...

Did you know Motorboat noise makes fish bad parents, leading to the death of their babies?

Image
Noise from motorboats is making fish become bad parents, and reducing the chance of their young surviving, research led by marine experts at the University of Exeter has shown. The sound of motorboat engines disturbed coral reef fish so acutely that it changed the behavior of parents and stopped male fish from properly guarding their young, feeding, and interacting with their offspring.   The research, which involved playing recordings of natural reef noise or intermittent motorboat noise around 38 fish nests over 12 days, found that the death rates of baby fish exposed to boat engine noise increased significantly, with six of the 19 boat-noise nests suffering complete mortality.   The Exeter University-led team of marine biologists says that noise from boats is a ’global pollutant’, distracting fish and making them unable to properly protect their young from predators.   They believe motorboat noise should be factored in when trying to protect fish stocks ...

How to identify a liar

Image
A study published in the journal Frontier Psychology on Human Psychology, based on a study by Norbert Wiener, showed how one can identify someone who is lying to him or her by using mathematics.   This study highlights how human beings change their mind in the event of a choice between different things, a change in mind that can be caused by a small amount of information, a person's pre-decision analysis, and how it determines a person's behavior.   A person's mental state is related to the information he or she has before making a decision. When one has enough information one can easily make the choice. For example, before buying something, one first seeks out information and then tries to ask the user and others which gives him or her enough information to make the right decision.   This was echoed by mathematician Thomas Bayes, who says that a person who thinks well first weighs a lot of options before making a decision.   Bayes argues that all a p...

What does it take for a stadium to obtain VAR? Millions of dollars are spent in a year

Image
Digital video technology, known as VAR, is one of the most helpful technologies that have come to correct referees' mistakes, which could create discord among teams and their executives and frustrate their fans.   VAR ‘Video Assistant Referee’, helps the referee (or his team) who is not on the field, collaborate with the referee on the field in making only four crucial decisions while the game is on.   These decisions include confirming or denying an error if the goal is scored in the event of a doubt, a penalty decision, confirming that the player is to be given a red card immediately and also used in the event of an error by the referee, and releasing the player who has not made a mistake.   Although this technology is being used, not every stadium can be able to use it as there are requirements in terms of finances, stadium layout, and other rules set by the International Federation of Football Associations (IFAB), on the interaction of close to the World F...
