How does social media affect the health and well-being of young people?

Social media is one of the mainstays of life for many users today. Most of the time young people come first to use them as a way of giving themselves happiness.

Young people today are born into a developed, technological world, which is why they dominate the use of social media. Some wonder what would happen to them if they lived a life without WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, and others.

Numerous studies have been conducted in developed countries, showing that the use of some social media for young people takes much time after the time spent sleeping.

According to a study by the Neville Wadia Institute of Management Studies (NWIMSR) in Pune, India, social media can have positive or negative effects on users, depending on how they are used.

While the effects are mostly negative, some benefits can be beneficial to a person and put a difference in his life.

This includes getting to know the world in general [news] and other important things.

For those who like to watch movies or songs and those who like to play certain games, social media can be beneficial too and of course, some make money.

Some of the negative effects of social media include the following:

Depression and anxiety

It has been found that frequent use of social media leads to depression and anxiety.

Studies have shown that young people are more likely to use Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, and other similar sites.

Most of the time the users do not show who they are but show themselves differently through photos or other personal lives they want to live.

For example, there are photos of what is known as 'editing', in which one can put oneself in a beautiful, expensive place that looks good based on one's wishes and on the fact that later that person will remember that it is really a fabrication. That makes you sad and depressed at some point.

Loneliness

As a person becomes more and more accustomed to using his computer or phone, he becomes less and less likely to be with other people, feeling that his life depends on his gadget and later that person may find it completely unpleasant to be with others [people].

Self-denial

One of the main reasons why some people use these sites is to make them known and popular through their activities and to display themselves on those sites.

Living in a life of wanting to show your followers all the time and not getting the right answers for your desires such as the increase in followers or not being shown to be popular as you want can make you feel rejected and unloved because of your desire to be popular and engaged to be known are not met.

Social media influences youth that it may cause some negative impacts on their lives
